The NIMSAT Institute was awarded the National Science Foundation EAGER: US IGNITE grant for a proposal to develop a Virtual Crisis Information Sharing and Situational Awareness Platform for Collaborative Disaster Response.

NIMSAT will leverage existing ultra-fast networks available in US Ignite communities and research outcomes from programmable networking concepts to build a low cost, high performance, and highly available information sharing and situational awareness platform for collaborative crisis response. The project will create a next-generation command and control environment that supports high-definition video based collaboration among first responders with fault tolerant communication infrastructure. The failure of communication infrastructure is a serious issue during disasters. The application provides a research solution to make critical information available to first responders and incident commanders during and after an incident. This information can save time, money, and makes it efficient to provide real time intelligence to various cooperating agencies.
