Mr. Tomi Tiekko, Head of Empathic Buildings program, Tieto technologies, Finland will be speaking at LITE Auditorium on May 15th (next Tuesday afternoon @ 1:30 pm). Tieto is an IT software and services company (like CGI or IBM) that provides IT and product engineering services. Operating in more than 20 countries with approximately 13,000 employees, Tieto is one of the largest IT service providers in Europe. Their focus is human-centric approach to intelligent buildings using IoT sensors, system integration and analytics to improve how humans interact with each other and the building environment. They have strong interest in areas relevant to intelligent buildings including data stream processing, machine learning, IoT, energy efficiency, architecture, design, systems resilience, and human factors.

Tieto is sponsoring a research project in this area as part of our NSF Center for Visual Decision Informatics. This platform will create more opportunities for research and innovation in the area of smart buildings.
