The Congressional App Challenge Competition And Mentorship Program (FACE Magazine)

Aug 26, 2019 03:58PM ● By Flint Zerangue, Sr.

Middle or high school students interested in participating in the Congressional App Challenge are invited to attend the Kick Off Meeting tomorrow, August 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the UL Lite Center.  The Congressional App Challenge (CAC) is a STEM education competition for local middle and high school students that connects teams with local mentors (a college-level student and a faculty member or professional) to help them learn how to code and develop an app.  Lafayette GEAR UP and New Vision Leadership, in cooperation with Congressman Clay Higgins, CGI, CajunCode Fest, Waitr and the UL Lafayette School of Computing and Informatics, has been instrumental in working with community partners to bring this opportunity to students over the past two years.

All middle and high school students who may be interested in participating should attend the Kick Off Meeting at the Lite Center on August 27th at 6:00 p.m.

What is the Congressional App Challenge?
The challenge is a public effort to encourage kids to learn how to code, through annual district-wide competitions hosted by members of Congress for their district. Their mission is to:

1. Inspire students from every corner of the country to explore STEM, coding and computer science through hands-on practice;

2. Include and engage students from communities that are traditionally underrepresented in the tech community; and

3. Innovate policymaking by connecting members of Congress to new and emerging technologies through personal interactions with their student constituents.

Below is the link for them to register for the kickoff event this Tuesday. They can also click on the pdf of the flyer attached.
