The Congressional App Challenge showcase and award ceremony took place Wednesday night in Lafayette.

Held at the LITE Center, students were able to demonstrate their newly built software applications, or apps, before an award ceremony.

The app challenge aims to engage students with science, technology, engineering, and math.

"I hope the students participating feel the community support of them as individuals for whatever they want to do and I also hope we're nudging them a little bit in going in the direction of technology," said Anne Swanson, Development Coordinator at CGI.

The event was held in coordination with Congressman Clay Higgins' office. Tuesday, Higgins announced that students from David Thibodaux STEM Academy won the Congressional App Challenge for Louisiana's Third District with a suicide prevention app.
